ملخص: In this thesis the application of the finite element methode to the Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations governing incompressible fluid flow is presented. This includes the derivation of the mathematical model, the formulation of the corresponding integral or weak equations, the discretization of these equations by means of a mixed finite element method, and the solution of the resulting algebraic system of equations. Here, most of these steps are discussed in some detail. for the approximate Stokes problem the stability and convergence of mixed finite element methods are discussed and the local stability theory presented. Using this analysis, linear macroelements for two dimensional and three dimensional flow are introduced, and are proved to be stable. To assess the efficiency and the numerical performance of these low order elements, three test problems have been considered. The numerical solutions obtained for these problems indicate that the elements introduced are computationally efficient and give velocity and pressure solutions that compare welle with finite element solutions in the published literature.
