ملخص: The size and the complexity of modern power transmission, and distribution systems, plus the recent advances in computer, and in distance protection relays technologies, have made the manual calculation of relay settings impractical. Although the setting of many relays can be handled by programmable calculators, or minicomputers, one relay at time, the time interval co-ordination required for distance protection relays, dictates that a system approach be used. Several programs have been developed to perform this function. The first program outline in this thesis is to co-ordinate the distance setting as well as the time settings of three types of distance protection relays applied to an interconnected transmission systems. This is developed according to the technical data and the steps dictated according to the technical data and the steps dictated by the manufacturers (GEC and Reyroll Phamphlet). In the second program a fault study analysis has been developed to chek the performance of the protection system and the reliability of the power system network. This is done for three kinds of faults (phase to phase, phase to earth, and three phase faults). Finally, to have a best co-ordination of the relays, the utility of some distance protection schemes, with their advantages, and how these schemes are used in power system protection, has been given.
